Methodology

How we work out every number.

GnomeStats is a read-only view of the DemocracyCraft economy. It shows public market data. It moves no money and holds no balances.

Where the data comes from

Every figure comes from the DemocracyCraft Treasury REST API, the public endpoint for item statistics and the ChestShop registry. A background worker crawls both on a schedule into a local Postgres mirror. Pages read only that mirror, so a page view never reaches the game server.

GnomeStats shows public listings only. No per-customer, per-sale or per-firm financial data appears here. Shop coordinates and the owner or firm name on each shop are public in-game, and they appear here.

Prices and the daily average

There are two kinds of price.

A true price comes from the ChestShop registry sign prices, with a buy and sell side per shop. We normalise per unit by dividing the sign price by its batch quantity, so a sign selling 2160 diamonds for $8,640 is recorded as $4 per unit. A 0.00 side is switched off. The item is not free.

We also watch whether a shop actually trades. If a shop has held its stock for days and we have never seen it sell a unit, or a shop offering to buy has never bought one, we treat it as inactive. These are usually walled-off, decorative, or unfunded chests. Inactive shops still appear in the shop lists, marked, but they are kept out of the headline cheapest-buy and best-sell figures and the deal median, so a frozen sign that no one can use does not set the price. A shop that buys from players but sits at or near its container ceiling is treated the same way for the best-sell figure: a real sale will not fit, even if it still takes the odd unit. Casino stakes, off-market outliers, and detected scaling-chain prices are also kept out of both headline figures on both sides: a sign whose price is not a real market price does not set one. The screener figures are recomputed each crawl, so they can trail an item page by up to one crawl as a shop crosses the inactivity mark.

The daily average is a blended buy-and-sell volume-weighted average, one value per day. It shows how much trading happened. It is not the true price. The API gives no detail within a day, so we draw one line per day with no intraday highs and lows. When a day has no reading, the line breaks.

The GnomeStats Index

The GnomeStats Index is a fixed-basket Laspeyres price index built from the daily blended prices of the most-traded goods. We leave currency tokens out so it tracks goods, not money.

An item joins only if it has enough daily history, clears a base-period volume floor, and stays under a coefficient-of-variation ceiling that drops items whose blended price swings too hard. The index is base 100 on the first accrued day, weighted by base-period spending. We winsorise each daily price relative so no single item can drive the whole index.

The index reports through the last complete day; we drop the current partial crawl, and a trailing 3-day median smooths the series. Below roughly a week of history, it shows a still-accruing state instead of a number. Sector sub-indices repeat the same steps within each sector.

This is a market-activity index. It is not a cost-of-living index and not a CPI.

Player currencies and par

Players issue their own currency tokens, such as banknotes, lottery tokens and casino tokens. The Mint reads these. For each token, we read a face value and an issuer out of the token name. That read is a best guess, so we show the raw token name beside the result.

Par compares the face value to the real per-unit shop price: price divided by face. A note that buys and redeems near 100 per cent is a credibly pegged currency. The further par drifts from 100 per cent, the further the market price has moved from the printed value.

Listed for sale is the face value of notes currently stocked in shops: unsold issuer inventory. It is not money in circulation, and not money the issuer holds. In Redmont, registered banks can be exempt from balance taxes, so a player can shelter a balance by buying a note and storing it privately. Privately stored notes do not show up in shop data, so we cannot measure true circulation. We rank issuers by how actively their notes trade, not by how many they stock.

Movers and deals

Movers are window-over-window moves in the daily blended average, so a mover shows a change in market activity. It does not show a change in price. Movers report through the last complete day. To appear as a gainer or loser, an item needs a stable series with a low coefficient of variation; we mark items whose readings swing about as volatile.

Deals compare the per-unit buy price at one shop against the median shop for the same item. A penny floor and a believable band keep noise and impossible bargains out. The home page only shows deals on items whose shop prices sit close together, so the median means something.

Casino and gambling labels

Some items are gambling stakes or payouts, such as casino tokens, and some shops exist to trade them. An item earns its gambling badge from its name and how it trades. A seller whose listings are dominated by gambling tokens is treated as a casino venue, and every shop under that owner is marked. Casino stakes and venue prices are kept out of headline figures and price bands, because a stake is not a market price.

The pass is automatic and applies the same tests to every seller. Where review shows it has misread a shop or an item, the operator corrects the classification by hand, and that correction overrides the automatic result. A casino label describes what a shop trades. It says nothing about whether any business is legal; that is a matter for server rules and Redmont law, not for this site. Freshness

Every figure is a snapshot of the local mirror, stamped from the last crawl the worker finished. Numbers can lag the live server by the time between crawls, so a recent in-game change may not appear until the next crawl lands.

History is built one day at a time, starting when the mirror first began recording: . History before that date does not exist here. We gate any window wider than the history we have.

What GnomeStats does not do

No per-customer or per-firm financials

The API reports market-wide and per-item activity only, not who bought what, what any player or firm spent or earned, or any account balance. GnomeStats holds no balances and does not guess at them.

The blended average shows trading, not price

A blended buy-and-sell average gauges how much an item trades. It is not the true price. For an actual price, read the shop registry, where each shop lists its own per-unit buy and sell price.

One daily point, no candlesticks

Price history is one value per day, so the chart is a daily line. There are no opens, highs, lows, closes or candlesticks: the data cannot support them.

A disabled side is not free

A shop can switch off its buy or sell side, and that side comes through priced at 0.00. The side is disabled. The item is not free.

Listed is not circulation

The listed-for-sale figure on a currency token is unsold issuer inventory in shops. It is not money in circulation and not money the issuer holds. Privately stored notes do not show up here, so we cannot measure true circulation from shop data.

Unofficial status and terms

GnomeStats is an unofficial community project. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by DemocracyCraft or Mojang. It reads the public Treasury API and shows what that API makes public. It moves no money, holds no balances, and takes no part in any trade.

The site is provided as is, for information only. Figures can lag the live server and can contain errors. Nothing here is financial advice or a promise that any price, deal or spread is available. Check in-game before you act on a number.

Privacy

Sign-in is optional and uses Discord. We ask only for your Discord identity, never your email. A signed-in account stores your watchlist and, if you add one, a Discord webhook for your own alerts. You can clear both at any time.

Shop coordinates and the owner or firm name on each shop are public in-game, and they appear here as public market information. We show no account balances and no per-person earnings, because the public API does not carry them.
